Thompson Park

Longmont, Colorado
Historic neighborhood park • location within tree arboretum • limited budget infrastructure renewal

Confluent Design led the renewal of Thompson Park, one of Longmont’s original neighborhood parks located in the city’s historic west side neighborhood. The 4-acre park is known for its mature canopy and arboretum, which includes more than 60 tree species.

The project renewed aging park infrastructure while preserving the character of this historic landscape. A new playground, developed in collaboration with Urban Play Studio, was designed to celebrate and complement the park’s tree canopy, encouraging imaginative play within the arboretum setting.

Additional improvements included replacement of two park shelters, upgrades to the existing restroom building, and ADA improvements at the playground, shelters, and restroom facilities.

The project reflects the ongoing stewardship of Longmont’s historic parks, adapting aging infrastructure for the future while preserving the mature trees and welcoming atmosphere that define Thompson Park.
