St. Vrain Greenway Phases 9 & 10

2.5 miles of regional trail • 120-ft pedestrian bridge • multi-agency environmental permitting
Confluent Design led a multidisciplinary team for improvements along a 2.5-mile segment of the St. Vrain Greenway between Left Hand Creek and Sandstone Ranch Park. The project enhanced habitat, river access, and visitor amenities supporting the regional trail corridor.
Improvements included two trailheads with parking for vehicles and horse trailers, a custom restroom and site shelters, a 120-foot pedestrian bridge crossing St. Vrain Creek, a kayak takeout, site furnishings, and native plantings with irrigation along the greenway corridor. Confluent Design led the design of landscape restoration, habitat improvements, and trail connections linking the project amenities to the regional trail system.
Low-impact strategies included bioswales for water quality enhancement and infiltration, a native planting and seeding palette, locally sourced and recycled materials, and a building-integrated photovoltaic system. The project required coordination and permitting across multiple agencies including the City of Longmont, Boulder County, Weld County, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Design and approvals were completed on a compressed schedule to allow construction before seasonal closures protecting a nearby bald eagle nesting site.
Confluent Design later continued its work along the corridor with the design of Phase 11 at Dickens Farm Nature Area, extending the greenway system while expanding habitat restoration and public access along St. Vrain Creek.
