Pollinator garden at the Animal Friends Alliance Taft Hill campus - Fort Collins, Colorado

Animal Friends Alliance Pollinator Garden

Fort Collins, Colorado
Demonstration pollinator garden • native planting design • volunteer installation

Confluent Design led the creation of a demonstration pollinator garden at the Animal Friends Alliance in Fort Collins. The pro bono project, supported by a grant from the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, transformed a small field of reclamation grasses into a diverse landscape designed to support native pollinators while improving the visibility and ecological function of the shelter’s grounds.

The planting design uses locally native perennials, grasses, and shrubs selected for complementary flower structures and staggered bloom periods, providing nectar and pollen resources throughout the growing season while also supporting overwintering habitat. A crusher fines path improves circulation for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Volunteer installation projects were coordinated to implement the path and planting design, and an interpretive sign explains the role of native plants and pollinators while illustrating how similar plantings can be incorporated into water-wise residential landscapes.

The project demonstrates how even small, underutilized landscapes can support biodiversity, engage the community, and serve as practical models for pollinator-friendly gardens.
